Leica Geosystems is a global company providing geospatial solutions to over 120 countries worldwide. It operates in multiple industries from aerospace and engineering to building and construction, forensics and public safety. With close to 200 years of experience pioneering solutions to measure the world, Leica Geosystems’ products capture, analyse, and present spatial information.
About Time collaborated with Leica to create a promotional animated video which illustrated the capabilities of their new product solutions whilst remembering its history. Our goal was to create a fun and engaging animation that demonstrated the product in a variety of scenarios, showcase key benefits and new features of the product and how it overcomes some of the current frustrations it’s current target audience feels.
The process started by defining a style with a mixture of style frames based off a short script. Once a chosen route had been selected we needed to capture the character in different environments. To do this we decided to create a walk cycle animation showing the character transitioning through different scenes and telling a story.
A storyboard was formed to help place the key parts of the story and visually show how each scene would transition. From this a list of assets were compiled and generated ranging from decorative scenery cactus’s to environments in space and detailed Leica products.
We approached the animation by drawing up a rough animatic to give an indication of how long each scene would last for. The combination of the assets and the animatic then allowed us to start producing and rendering out the story…
A pivotal piece within the Captivate campaign which was the focal point of other media. From this other forms of marketing such as digital display banners, presentations and banners were created using the assets generated by About Time.
